The ڰAPP brand guide defines the visual identity of the college through the lens of it’s mission, vision, and value statements. The goal of documenting this information is to make all written and visual communication concise and cohesive.
This webpage is a tool to help anyone accurately represent the college as a professional and collegiate entity to current and potential students. Anyone using this page is encouraged to embrace the idea that ڰAPP is a united professional institution that serves the needs of students regardless of which department, office, or school is communicating to them. Every department, division, and individual is the face of ڰAPP, and they ALL make an impact in the community together.
The Office of Marketing & Public Relations acknowledges that some exceptions to these guidelines may be required under special circumstances. The Office of Marketing & Public Relations reserves the right to facilitate and manage special circumstances on a case-by-case basis. Please reach out to their office if you have questions about your project’s compliance with the guidelines as defined in on this page, or in the full document.
The ڰAPP logo must be included on all college promotional material,
communications, and collateral. There are no exceptions or replacements for its use
on any materials, printed or digital, published by any department, office, school,
or sub-brand of the college.
The logo must always appear in a fixed relationship, and should not be altered or modified in any way. There is no vertical version of the primary logo that exists. The horizontal lock-up on this page is the only available version for use.
No individual or entity not governed by Yosemite Community College District may use the logo for informational or promotional purposes without the express written consent of the ڰAPP Office of Marketing & Public Relations.
Maintain a spacing around the logo equivilant to the width of the “M” of Modesto in the logo mark.
Legibility of the logo type is of the utmost importance at all times. The logo can be scaled down to a minimum size of one and a half inches wide on all printed materials. Scaling the logo smaller than the minimum size is prohibited due to ADA Compliance.
Don't change the color of the logo or its components
Don't recreate the type or add additional text to the logo.
Always present the logo in high contrast. The blue logo on light-color backgrounds and the white logo on dark backgrounds.
Refrain from using retired logo marks to ensure all branding is cohesive.
All logo components should remain together and not broken apart.
Don't rotate or skew the logo. Always scale it uniformly so it not stretched or squashed.
The college wordmark is to be used when using the logo would be impractical (items such as pens or very thin banners). The wordmark can be used in conjunction with the primary logo when appropriate.
The Academic Seal is reserved for use by the Office of the President, materials created for the purpose of acknowledgment of academic success (Commencement), or formal occasions deemed appropriate by the office of Marketing & Public Relations. If you have questions about its use, inquire with the office of Marketing & Public Relations for guidance.
The pirate icon is a logo mark of the college and is used by Athletics and on appropriate
outreach materials. Please refer to the dedicated Athletics Brand Guide for more details
and guidance on its use. The pirate icon is not a replacement for the primary Modesto
Junior College logo in Instructional or Student Services materials. Do not modify
or change the appearance of the mascot in any way without written consent from the
office of Marketing & Public Relations.
ڰAPP’s mascots, Petey and Penelope the Pirates, are caricatures of the pirate mascot and support the college in outreach and student engagement efforts. Please contact the Office of Marketing and Public Relations for high resolution files of their images and guidance on their usage prior to their use on college materials.
Logo Extensions are applications of the ڰAPP logo in conjunction with a school, office or department.
These extensions do not replace the primary logo, they are variations that help audiences identify areas of the college in scenarios pertaining to informational marketing specific to the school, office, or department. These logo extensions are only used for internal communication, professional stationary, and other office materials.
Logo extensions and custom marks are not available for every sector of the college. As the community’s college, use of the ڰAPP logo encapsulates all individuals, departments, and programs without overly dividing the college. The following areas of the college will not receive logo extensions or unique logo marks because they fall under an area that already has an appropriate extension or falls out of the jurisdiction of the college: clubs, committees, initiatives, affinity groups, centers, scholarships, individuals, awards, and advocacy groups.
Student organizations are not subject to ڰAPP branding, but they must follow the general guidelines for the ڰAPP brand marks and logos when used in their materials.
These extensions are intended for use by every office, department, and division that falls under their applicable academic or administrative unit.
Each school and office should feel unified in their use of their logo and should use it when identifying their area is important for students to comprehend. All departments and programs should use their applicable school’s logo extension on all their materials. The use of their primary extensions will help elevate the various programs and offices across all deliverables.
Each of the 10 schools, the office of College & Administrative Services and the Office of Student Services sit at this level. The VPs and President’s offices are also visually represented at this level.
Secondary extensions are exclusively for non-instructional offices at Modesto Junior College. Areas like Student Services serve a varied number of offices that require further definition beyond one extension.
Logo lockup extensions are exclusive to state branded programs or designations with pre-existing visual standards outside of ڰAPP.
These extensions are reserved for programs that are managed and funded from a national or state level, and have their own established brand guidelines and logos. These include programs such as the Puente Project, MESA, and TRiO. Programs that do not have their own government mandated guidelines or logos will be subject to the guidelines listed in the brand guide.
Designations given to the college through grants or awards will follow the same rules, with the ڰAPP logo as primary and the designation as secondary. If a designation given to the college requires mandated treatment(s) please reach out to the office of Marketing & Public Relations for guidance.
Designations, like the HSI designation, do not take the place of the college’s logo in any official materials or communications. These marks should always be presented with the primary logo and follow the guidelines all other logo extensions adhere to. If the designation or partnership does not have predetermined guidelines, it will be subject to following the ڰAPP brand guidelines.
Our primary typeface, Myriad Pro, is used for all printed material and digital collateral distributed at the college.
It is a web safe font that is accessible via the Adobe Fonts library, and is compatible for use in several languages. All official college materials used for marketing and general promotion should utilize Myriad Pro as the dominant typeface used.
Use Atrament to distinguish headlines, arrange type on vertically oriented documents,
or on large signage to increase legibility. Atrament is not ideal for large swaths
of text or body copy.
Use Bell MT for academic booklets or large documents. Bell MT can also be used as
an accent typeface on marketing materials created for a formal or academic audience.
ڰAPP Blue should always be the primary color. The blue should be prominently featured on all creative media unless otherwise approved. No outside entity or individual is allowed to modify or replace the ڰAPP blue on any printed or digital materials.
ڰAPP Gold should be used to provide contrast to ڰAPP Blue. The gold should always provide distinct contrast against heavy applications of the blue. Avoid using the yellow on light backgrounds to maintain legibility.
Modesto Junior College utilizes three neutral colors and three accent colors to complement design work and promotional materials. Please refer to the above visual aid when creating materials with these colors to guide your use of them. None of the neutral colors or accent colors should replace the primary colors in any promotional materials printed or digital. For assistance in choosing and using approved secondary colors, please reach out to the public relations department.
